Two pairs with the same number can differ in toe shape, width, depth and heel hold. Before an online order, collect enough information to decide whether the new model addresses a problem your current shoes have.

Measure both feet in the socks you expect to wear

Use a flat, hard surface and follow the brand’s measuring instructions. Measure while standing if the chart calls for a weight-bearing measurement. Record both feet rather than assuming they match. Repeat the measurement to catch a tilted ruler or a sheet of paper that moved. If your feet tend to swell through the day, consider how the shoe will fit at the time you normally wear it.

Keep length and width separate. A longer size may add some room, but it can also put the flex point in the wrong place or let the heel move. When length fits but the sides feel compressed, a different width or model may be a better option than sizing up.

Read the chart heading before the numbers

Some charts show recommended foot length; others show an insole or last measurement. Those values are not interchangeable. Do not add a universal extra allowance to a chart that already includes fitting space. Use the instructions for the exact model and market, especially when converting between US, UK and EU sizes. A retailer’s generic conversion table is less useful than the maker’s own model guidance.

Compare the shape, not just the size

Look at the toe box from above, the depth around the forefoot and the fastening system. A tapered toe can crowd toes even when the overall length is generous. Laces provide adjustment, but they cannot reliably change a rigid upper or the basic shape of the sole. Think about any orthotic or replacement insole you actually use; it may take up more volume than the supplied liner.

Make an indoor fit check part of the order

Before removing tags, read the return conditions. On a clean indoor surface, try both shoes with normal socks, fasten them properly and walk at an ordinary pace. Check whether your toes can rest naturally, the forefoot bends comfortably and the heel stays reasonably secure. Try standing and turning as well as walking straight ahead. Follow any restrictions the seller places on returned footwear.

A shoe may soften with use, but break-in is not a dependable fix for the wrong length, persistent pressure or numbness. Stop the test if it hurts. If you have reduced sensation, a foot condition or ongoing pain, get individual fitting advice rather than relying on an online guide.

Keep a small fit record

Save the model name, size, width and a few notes about where it fits well. Record why a return was necessary. Over time, this is more useful than a list of brand sizes because a brand can use several different shapes across its range.

Measure both feet, understand what a size chart actually measures and use an indoor fit check before committing to a pair.

[2

post-18","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-fit-sizing
["GET
